The Proto Screw Shield allows cables to be secured with screw terminals, improving mechanical and electrical security compared with conventional headers. This feature supports thicker cables, which is useful in industrial environments or prototypes exposed to vibration. The main drawback is a slightly larger size and slower connection/disconnection compared with standard jumpers.

The shield is made from double-sided FR4 fibreglass PCB, standard 3.81 mm screw terminals, female headers and basic components (button, LED). Its typical dimensions are 70 mm x 54 mm x 20 mm (installed), and the approximate weight is 40 g. Minor variations may occur depending on the batch.

The shield fits directly onto original or clone Arduino UNO and MEGA2560 boards that follow the same pin layout. It is not physically compatible with boards of a different form factor (for example, Nano, Leonardo, Due) without specific adapters.

It is recommended to avoid leaving stripped cable ends excessively long and to check the screw tightness periodically to prevent poor contacts or loosening due to vibration. For harsh environments, periodic contact cleaning is advised and prolonged moisture should be avoided, as the screws are nickel-plated steel and could rust if directly exposed.
